The IDAF programme (IGAC-DEBITS-AFrica) was initiated in 1994 by French and African scientists within the scope of the IGBP-IGAC DEBITS programme, in order to study the atmospheric composition and deposition of important aerosol and trace gas species over Africa.

The IDAF program was initiated during a meeting in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast (December 1994), where participants adopted program objectives and a DEBITS/IDAF research strategy.

The IDAF steering committee met in Abidjan, Ivory Coast (December 1995) to define the operational plan of the IDAF programme
